: Original Design for the Ceiling of Bristol Council Chamber

: a framed colour drawing on paper, showing: the preparatory sketch for the decorative design of the Chamber ceiling in the Bristol Council House (now known as City Hall); the central part of the design comprises the Bristol crest, surrounded by sails and ships, and around the edges a border of buildings, some iconic and recognisable - such as St Mary Redcliff church, Cabot Tower, and the harbourside cranes - others seemingly imagined; in the corners are representations of Navigation, Industry, Enterprise and Wisdom, four personifications of a merchant and maritime city; this design was created as part of the original mural commissions funded by the Edward Austin Memorial Trust in 1953
