: Earthenware water cistern. The cistern is baluster shaped with a tall rounded lid and knop. It has a brass spout/tap at the bottom, just above the foot rim. The cistern has a white ground and is painted in coloured enamels of greens, pinks, yellows, purples, blues, oranges and reds. The painted design consists of intricate floral and interweaving leaf motifs, including roses around the main body of the cistern. On the neck of the cistern there is a snake coiled round a branch with leaves, which circles the whole circumference of the neck. The snake pattern is repeated on the lid.
