: punch bowl

: Tin-glazed earthenware punch bowl. The bowl has lightly sloping sides rounding under to a foot ring. It is painted in blue, manganese and white on a pale bluish glaze; it has a light tan rim. Inside painted in blue in centre is 'One // Bowl more // And then' within a bianco-sopra-bianco scalloped lozenge; it has a deep bianco-sopra-bianco border of three shaped motifs filled with a trellis alternating with a leaf flourish. On the exterior there is a chinoiserie landscape with a square building, a willow tree on a rock, a pagoda, a bamboo tree with cracked-ice fences, a sprouting rock and a smaller motif of a sprouting rock.
