: punch bowl

: Tin-glazed earthenware punch bowl. It is a hemispherical bowl on a tall foot ring. It is painted in blue and white on a pale blue glaze. On the exterior is a painted chinoiserie landscape with figures: a tower building with fence, a tall rock with willow trees, four men in a boat, a man seated on a sloping rock, low buildings with fence, a hill in background, one man with two boats, a flight of birds, a rock with a willow tree and a square building. On the interior are the words: 'ONE:BOWL:MORE.//AND:THEN.//1755'; with a faint bianco-sopra-bianco decoration below the rim. There is a large pinecone/ferns/leafy scrolls motif below the inscription and small bell flower/fern motifs above. There are small flower heads and scrolls around and between the inscription.
