: Bag from the Shan people of Burma (Myanmar). Rectangular bag of woven or embroidered panels of black cotton fabric with a geometric 'Greek key' pattern in dark red with diamonds and geometric patterns in blue, yellow, pink, green. The side panel becomes a wide plain black shoulder band and ends in black fringing. Front is covered in panels of red fabric with inset motifs covering the brocaded fabric of the bag. From the red fabric panels there are seed beads with black pompoms to which are attached long tassels of red woven tape with a pink pompom at the top. Between the fabric strips are two strings of white beads ending in a pink and green pompom. Tied to the shoulder band are two pieces of embroidered cloth with pattern at each end and a plain central section which is knotted around shoulder band - one in natural cotton with dark red and black design, the other in black cotton with a multicoloured design. Both have tasslels with pink, green and blue pompoms attached with strings of white beads. b)10 detached tassels.
