: J W H Allen was in the colonial service based in Malaysia during the 1950s. Early in 1950, he was asked to organise the building of the resettlement village at Paya Mengkwan in Malacca, with the help of the army. In total 450 new settlements of this sort were created under the Briggs Plan to house chinese 'squatters'. Photographs taken in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, which include a resettlement village in Malacca and Coronation celebrations in Singapore. This catalogue was produced with the support of the National Cataloguing Grants Programme for Archives.
