: Tom Bloxam worked for Shell in Borneo from 1939-1942 as an oil field engineer. He was involved in a secret operation to destroy the oil fields in the face of the Japanese advance. This incident is detailed in photographs taken by Bloxam as the oil fields were burning. He also wrote 3 letters to his mother describing the event and his subsequent journey from Borneo to Singapore and on to Australia. Bloxam returned to Borneo in 1948, and in later years, worked at the Wytch Farm oil field in Dorset, England. The collection consists of a small file of correspondence and 45 photographs.
