: British Empire & Commonwealth
: Photographs of sugar refineries
: The photographs on these pages were taken by Sisson Sitwell in 1933-34, and the majority feature sugar refineries for which Jessop & Co., Sitwell's employer, was involved as contractor. There are a number of images of the early phases of building the Biswan Sugar Refinery in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, as well as images of the sugar refineries at Upper Jumna, Modi (formerly Begumabad), Unnao, Kanpur, and Delhi. The pages also feature more domestic shots, including Sir Sidney Sitwell ("Dad") back home in Scotland and Sisson Sitwell's cars, and also tourist photographs of locations in India including Naini Tal, Delhi, Lucknow and Kanpur, the latter featuring the Muharram Processions.
: 58 photographs
: 58 small b/w photographs attached with photo corners to 10 cardboard pages which have punched holes on a reinforced spine, presumed taken from a loose-leaved album. The pages and individual images carry manuscript captions, presumably by Sisson Sitwell.
