: These photographs document aspects of Parlane Macfarlane's life and work as an engineer for the Kenya-Uganda Railway in Mombasa and Nairobi in the 1920s - 30s. The majority of the images are of dockside scenes at Kilindini Harbour, Mombasa, including a series showing the unloading of a train from the SS Harmonides. Other images show further ships and trains of the period and dockside scenes and installations. There are also several images of a KUR road bridge built by Macfarlane in 1927. There are also a number of domestic photographs of the Macfarlane family and their homes in Mombasa and Nairobi, together with images of Parlane Macfarlane at golfing events. Finally there are several professional mounted group shots including Macfarlane, as part of KUR staff groups and the Nairobi Town Council. Several of the images in this series are either duplicates or companion images to the mounted photographs in 1995/135/1/2.
