This contains background information for newly posted servicemen (and women, a chapter 'Welcome the Women' acknowledges that WAAF first arrived in India in 1944.) Good source of detail about dress, camp life, mail, pay, as well as notes on the sub-continent. - Kashmir, Notes for Service Personnel Taking Leave in Kashmir, published by HQ Rawalpindi District, signed by Stephens in 1946. Gives background information on the history of the area, Allied Forces Club, and places of interest. - Newpaper cuttings (1947) referring to riots around Peshawar and one headlined 'Armed Mobs Attack Up and Down Frontier Mails', Rawalpindi. 'The Frontier Mail proceeding to Peshawar terminated at Rawalpindi last night without completing its journey. The train was detained near Chaklala by an armed mob numbering between 300 and 400. They assaulted passengers belonging to one community, some of whom escaped by hiding.'
