Folded Valentine. Front made from silver and white paper lace, with frame over the picture of a woman holding a fan. Frame decorated with small pink shells, white and green artificial flowers made of cotton, small cupid and a poem. Inside is a poem printed on a small circular piece of paper.

Obverse painted in gouache with pastoral landscape and figures in peasant and shepherdess costumes accompanied by lambs. Each end painted and gilded finely with scrolls, flowers, urns and birds. Reverse painted at centre with two girls in costume as shepherdess. Guards and sticks pierce and gilded finely with quatrefoils, trophies of armour and flowers. Pivot of mother of pearl and metal.

Sticks finely decorated with rococo scrolls and painted with flowers . Central cartouche of a female between two children in 18th C costumes, all backed with thinner mother of pearl. Two sticks refaced at lower end. Guard pierced and gilded with scrolls. Pivot of mother of pearl and metal.

Leaf is block printed and hand painted with a Biblical scene, possibly the moment when the people of Lystra, impressed when Saints Paul and Barnabas heal a cripple, mistake them as gods Mercury and Jupiter and prepare to make sacrifices in their honour before Paul and Barnabas beg them to stop.
