The three works below, Luke Jerram's HIV. 2014, Yee Soo Kyung's Translated Vase No 8. and Bernard Meadows' Help (opus 81), explore the notion of what it means to be human in different and unusual ways. They visualise and explore the difficult issue of illness and death, but also human emotions, such as pain and fear, by using abstract forms. This shows how sculpture, perhaps more than any other art form, is able to translate and express aspects of human life that are often too difficult or too 'large' to grasp or talk about. The three-dimensional form makes them more tangible.
