Flames straying from heavy copper boiling pans often started fires at sugar refineries. These pans, located in narrow rooms with low ceilings, typically contained 100 gallons (454 litres) of boiling sugar, making them a real fire hazard. This model shows an engine of the type that was used at Conrad Finzel's sugar refinery on the Counterslip. Finzel developed new processing methods that enhanced the quality of the sugar and made production faster and less hazardous. Scale approx. 1:24.
