Bristol was an ideal location for glass manufacture, because its raw ingredients were available locally as well as the fuel it required from the Bristol and Somerset coalfields. This model depicts a glass-making kiln used by Powell & Ricketts Ltd at the Avon Street glassworks in Bristol, from about 1860 to 1923. It was made by one of the factory's workmen. The Avon Street glassworks were the last glass-bottle makers in Bristol. Scale approx. 1:48
