Third page is a poem; 'I've never known a lovelier Spring, Or seen the skies more blue- more fair, Or heard the birds mre joyous sing, Or felt such beauty everywhere. The lengthening days bring new delights, That He with His abounding grace, Gives us with such a lavish hand, That this might be a heavenly place. But we have marred the peace- the joy, And filled the air with dreadful wings, And given a terror to the stars, And scarred the earth with hideous things. Yet is the furrow set for grain, And still the Lenten lilies blow, And violets for Easter clad, Where celendine and primrose grow. And these are the abiding things- That come with each returning year, Though wars and dynasties will pass, This loveliness will still be here- To gladden other hearts than ours, Who following- walk these ways along, And out of all our stress and fears, Will sing a new and happier song.' Last page (with a painting of a tree) states; 'APRIL 3RD 1941/ TO SUE FROM REX'.
