Trade pistol

Muskets, pistols, gunpowder, shot and lead for making shot were all traded to Africa. The increasing number of guns made it harder for those Africans opposed to the slave trade to maintain their opposition. To defend themselves they also needed guns, and guns were traded for enslaved people, ivory and gold.

: Military flintlock holster pistol. Round barrel with moulded rings at the breech. Secured to the stock by 2 barrel pins. Walnut full stock with plain brass furniture comprising butt cap, trigger guard, sideplate and 1 ramrod pipe. Iron ramrod. Flintlock sidelock with flat plate. Roller frizzen. Secured to the stock by 2 sidenails. No Ordnance markings.
