: 'The Bristol Mental Hospital Management Committee wish to record their appreciation of the services rendered by Alderman A.W.S. Burgess first as a member of the Visiting Committee and later as Chairman of the Management Committee from 1948 until his retirement in 1953. Some of the greatest advances in the development of the Mental Hospital Service in Bristol, including the openin of the Neurosis Centre and special departments at Barrow Hospital and the day Hospital at Grove Road were made under his chairmanship. The sound judgment, good counsel and wide experience contributed by Alderman Burgess in directing the affairs of the Bristol mental Hospitals are held in high regard by all whose pleasure it has been to work under his leadership.
