Description: Chassepot single shot breech-loading military rifle Model 1866. Round steel barrel with octagonal breech, rifled with 4 grooves. Blade foresight and adjustable ramp rearsight. Bayonet fixing bar at the muzzle. The breech stamped with various Ordnance markings including 'Cahen-Lyon Mle 1866' and the serial number U74708 and the date 1868.Breech-loading action with sliding bolt each component stamped with Ordnance marks and the serial number U74708. Attached to the stock by 2 steel barrel bands, the rear band with sling swivel, each band with a spring retainer. Wooden full-stock, the left side of butt stamped with serial number U74708. Furniture comprising steel butt-plate, trigger guard and rear sling swivel. Steel cleaning rod.
