Community artist Claudia Collins decided to bring beaches to the streets of Knowle West in April 2020, whilst people were unable to visit real beaches because of Lockdown.

Many of the roads of Knowle West were named after seaside resorts in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, which inspired Claudia to create mini beaches with deckchairs, sandcastles, buckets and spades or simply some chalk drawings. She wanted to make the streets more fun for people on their daily walk.

With the help of Filwood Community Centre she was able to produce Knowle West Beaches postcards featuring the street signs. These could be picked up for free at local shops or delivered to people by Claudia, to keep in touch with loved ones.
