Sarwat Siddiqui [SS] I’m ready, ok, and great ok. It’s Saturday the 15th of May 2010 and this is Sarwat from Bristol Museums and we’re in Netham Park in Barton Hill and we’re speaking with… J Jamie L Luke A Abdullah SS Great, boy’s could you tell us about, uhm, what you like about NP J Well I quite enjoy my [very mumbled speech] on the farm and that SS Can I just get you to keep your feet still just for a minute is that alright J I very enjoy the farm in NP and I go like playing with stuff L Uhm, it’s good, uhm, for all the things they got, like the climbing frame and everything. A I like it cause you can play football like you can go on the climbing frame and there’s a football pitch down there, so its quite enjoyable

SS and boys what are you doing right now, what are you doing right now? A Riding… L Riding on our bike… J Riding on the bike round… A it’s basically… J basically two bikes two people who are together… A and if you turn one of them the other one turns as well…

SS and how come this bike is here in NP, where did you get it from? J The Play ranger bought it for us to play with

SS and so who are the play rangers, can you tell me cause I don’t know what they do A Yeah, the are the people from the settlement in the tree and uhm they just like help all us play SS Are they here? A Yeah yeah, they do the activities they do it J At urban park they come here, they like just mostly everyone they take you to [pro five?] mostly all round Barton Hill

SS and uhm and do you, how regularly do you come to the park, when J I come everyday except Monday and Thursday L everyday except from Sunday’s SS we can’t pick up the sounds when you do that it just comes up really loud. Thank you

SS And can you tells us a bit about uhm who you play with when you come to the park J well whenever I come here I see my friends and we play like tough and that SS and what about you who do you play with L Jamie and Abdullah and other boys over there at the moment A yeah we all play together SS you all play together, and do you all live near each other All Yeah A I live, we, us two live on the same street SS Great

SS and uhm when you, can you tell us a bit about riding this particular bike, what’s different about it, why have you chosen to ride it right now J Well when one person move the handle bars to the other another pair of handle bars moves as well. A So it’s basically all about teamwork SS Yeah, so uhm no one, the person listening to this wont be able to see the bike they will just be able to hear your voices so can one of you describe what this bike is? L It’s got two handle bars and its got a bar, three bars joining it together J and there are four wheels and two pedals

SS and uhm what’s the most difficult thing about riding it? J Uhm A the way you turn L if one person turns around without the other person knowing the other person could fall off A so basically if you uhm one of you can drive or not and the other person can just not hold on. The other person can drive but if the other person moves the handle bar the other person drops.

SS so what’s the job of the other person, what do they do L they have to do the same actions as you J or they could just not hold on hard and just hold on loosely they don’t drop and they don’t drive so the other person can drive as well

SS and which is the easy, which is the best part of the park to ride this bike on L Just like the gravely bits J the grass bits are harder to peddle

SS and can you tell us is there anything ever interesting or funny or uhm sad or exciting ever happened to you in this park? All Uhm SS is there ever been anything that happened here that you’ve heard about that other people have told you that’s happened in this park? All No SS No? All not really SS have you ever hurt yourself in this park? L No, but one boy did A he broke his arm L he broke is arm cause he fell of the swing over there SS when did that happen? L about a couple of weeks ago

SS do you play football in the park? All yeah A in the cage SS in the cage, can you tell us a bit about the cage. When did they open it, the cage? J The cage opened like every day and you can just go in there and play L it’s open all the time A it’s free L You can just go in there whenever you want and play football and that J and basketball

SS and what do you prefer football or basketball J Football L Football SS can you play basketball? J Yeah I can play, but I’m not as good as everybody SS so who plays basketball in there then? L Uhm just mainly older people who come in there and play basketball

SS and do you think that this park is for older kids or younger ones or both? A For any age J cause like sometimes you get older people wanting to play football and basketball but then younger kids will want to come in on the climbing frame and stuff L Go away SS Great, ok, and is there anything else you would like to say about this park J No SS No? any really good football matches that you’ve won A Yeah SS tell us about that A well uhm it was around like a month ago now, down on the thingy pitch and basically it was a league basically and there was one Thursday one Thursday yeah if you’d have one all three games you would have gone trough and you would have get in the final in the other game, we lost in the final. SS Ah, and did you score a goal, did any of you score a goal All yeah SS Yeah, can I get you to say yes I scored a goal just cause you cant hear our voices A Yes I scored a goal SS was that the winning goal? A what for my team? SS Yeah A No SS great, brilliant, boys that was brilliant, boys thank you, I’m just going to write your…
