Silver tokens like this were given to each of the 50 people who had donated £50 towards building the Theatre Royal. These tokens entitled the owner and their descendants 'to the sight of every performance to be exhibited in this house' and are still valid today. The token is marked on one side 'KING STREET Bristol Theatre May 30 1766' this being the name of the theatre at that time. The reverse side is marked 'No.26 the Proprieter of this Ticket is Entitled to the Sight of every Performance to be Exhibited in this house'. Number 26 was originally allocated to William Jones.
