In 1886 the archaeologist William Flinders Petrie excavated at the site of Tell Nabasha. In grave 23 of the cemetery, four mummies were buried. Each had a set of amulets wrapped in the bandages. As these were amongst the first mummies to show where various amulets should be placed on a body, the discovery was important. The amulets are shown here in the positions in which they were found: each had a place and purpose in protecting the mummy.
