: 'Duke Cups' is a work composed of four cups, each made of a stoneware body with a variety of glazes and gilt enamel decoration. Each cup has a broad flattened rim with sharp edges interrupted by a small spout flanked by two prongs. The rims are decorated with a layer of crazed gilt enamel showing a layer of red glaze underneath. Two of the cups have solid green columnar feet covered with a green glaze with a veined appearance, and a tall mid-section with expressive painted designs in red, green and yellow enamels. The other two cups have a more squat body decorated with blue and red enamel floral decoration, resting on three legs covered in gold enamel. One of the latter cups has a small base supporting the legs. 'Duke Cups' is a work previously displayed in the 'Ahead of the Curve : New china from China', an exhibition of contemporary ceramics and glass.
