E W Godwin designed this settee in about 1867. This Asian-inspired piece was based on Chinese low seats with lattice panels at the side and back and double-circle fretwork at the arms. Originally ebonized, this mahogany piece has since been painted black. Similarly, the red satin upholstery is a later addition.
