: Folded piece of cream paper with handwritten inscription on front and reverse. 'Sept 2 1843 - All Saints Church being under repair, & Mr Penton Undertaker having been requested by a descendant of E. Colston Esq. to find that philantropist's grave- no stone or breast plate being found, a lead coffin supposed to be his when [..?] & opened- the head of the corpse was an exact likeness or counterpart of the monumental effigy- the shirt likewise- the enclosed is a portion of his hair- the coffin was carefully re-soldered & replaced. These were present: H Rogers - Vicar / I. Jones & Penton Church Wardens/ Garrard City Treasurer/ Rumby Jr. Architect / Holland - Parish Clerk / Mr Penton's Ward/ Lawrence Jnr. Builder / Randall Carpenter/ Masons/ (and in pencil) J. Cousins'.
