Fire engine

Shand Mason made this engine for the Imperial Fire Office in Bristol. It was horse-drawn with manually operated pumps. In 1897, when it was no longer required in Bristol, it went to Somerton in Somerset where the parish council used it until 1935.

: Horse-drawn manual fire engine complete with pole and two lamps. Red painted with gold leaf embellishment and lettering. Built by Shand Mason & Co for the Imperial Fire Office in Bristol and used by them until the establishment of the Bristol Fire Brigade in 1877, then used at St George until 1898. Sold to Somerton Parish Council, Somerset in 1898 and used there until about 1935.
