: Polished copper coin engraved for a convict token. Design pricked into the coin, very worn on the obverse but clear on the reverse. Obverse: "TO / PA...Y / FROM / E MEREDITH / JUNE 12 / 1836" [possibly PADDY] Reverse: "A / TOKEN OF / LOVE AND / AFFECTION / FORGET ME NOT" Such tokens were made by the condemned or a professional convict whilst awaiting trial or transportation, as a keepsake for friends or family.
