: 'Book' made up from six lengths of ribbed cream silk stitched together across centre. Samples of plain sewing, worked mainly in pink thread on white cotton, stitched to 'pages' with bow trims: inside front 'cover' - blank; p.1 - tacking & hemming; small pink knitting; hemming; p. 3 - hemming; top sewing 2 pieces of fabric together; p.5 - sew-&-fel; seam; knitted ribbing; p.6 - plain darning with herringbone border; p.7 - sew-&-fell & tacked edges; knitting in the round; preparing a band and attaching a tape; p.9 - gathers stroked & fixed into a band; darned knitting; p.11 - patched flannel; shaped knitting;; p.12 - darned knitting; p.13 - strengthening a slit with tape; turning a heel; sewing a buttonhole and attaching a covered button; p.15 - 2 tucks and a hem; patch in printed cotton; p.17 - patch in plain cotton; run-&-fell join and buttonhole worked on a taked hem; p.19 - joining 2 pieces and inserting gusset; L-shaped twill darn; inside back 'cover' - darned diagonal cut. Printed instructions for the samplers have been cut out and stitched to the pages. A loose beige silk ribbon and bow probably originally covered the join of the 'pages'.
