The Extinction of Colonial Slavery

Commemorative medallions were issued on many occasions. Several were issued to mark the abolition of slavery in 1834. This shows the figure of a freed man breaking his chains, with words from Psalm 18: 'This is the work of the Lord, it is marvellous in our eyes'.
