From the early 1800s new gadgets were invented to make kitchen work easier.
This clockwork bottle jack turned a joint of meat, cooking it evenly above or in front of a fire, when previously this would have been done by hand.
This one dates to about 1880, though they were in use throughout the 1800s and into the 1900s.
