Silver yad, 1800s

This pointer or 'yad' (from the Hebrew for hand) is used in place of a finger when people read from the Torah scroll during Jewish services. The Torah parchment scroll is inscribed in Hebrew by hand and contains the first five books of the Hebrew Bible.
