Cary Grant (Archie Leach as he was then known) attended Bishop Road School and later received a scholarship to Fairfield Grammar School. He was admitted there on 2 September 1915. His favourite classes were geography, history, art and chemistry. The part-time chemistry lab assistant brought him to the backstage of the Bristol Hippodrome and Empire Theatres and from this point Archibald Leach decided he wanted to become an actor.
