: Bronze coloured metal medal. The obverse has a man's head with an inscription around "UHURU 9th DECEMBER 1961". The reverse has a shield with a standing figure on either side above a motto (illegible).This is attached with two small rings to a ribbon of green, yellow and black. The medal is pinned to an orange card with the inscription,"PURCHASED FROM STREET VENDORS DAR ES SALAAM PRIOR TO INDEPENDENCE DAY DECEMBER 1961".
