Description: Calabar bar, length of copper alloy wire bent in half. Used as currency in West Africa in 18th and 19th century, part of the trade goods for the transatlantic trade in enslaved people. Possibly made in Birmingham or Bristol. Previously catalogued as Manilla (currency).
