Regimental snare drum of the 4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment

Regimental bands provided marching music for troops and entertainment for civilians. In November 1914 Eirene Champney saw the band of the 4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment marching down Whiteladies Road. ?They were playing a glorious tune with the drums & pipes. There is a little ? African drummer,? perhaps playing this drum. W405 donor unknown

: Side or snare drum, with brass shell. Wooden hoops to hold heads in place, painted in red and white stripes. Ropes tied across hoops and shell. Bottom hoop has 3 metal studs for feet.
