Description: Remington Rolling Block single shot breech-loading military rifle made for the Egyptian Army. Round steel rifled barrel with flattened breech. Blade foresight and adjustable ramp rearsight. Muzzle with bayonet mounting bar. The breech stamped with Egyptian Ordnance marks. Breech-loading action with rotating breech-block, the block pivoting rearward for loading and containing a firing pin and hinged extractor, each component stamped with Ordnance mark. Attached to the stock by 3 steel barrel bands (the middle band with a sling swivel), each with a spring retainer and each stamped with crescent & star. Wooden 2 piece stock (butt and fore-stock) the underside of butt with sling swivel, the left side of butt stamped with Egyptian Ordnance mark. Steel furniture comprising butt-plate, trigger guard and nose-cap. Iron receiver containing lock mechanism and breech block each part stamped with a crescent & star. Upper tang of receiver stamped 'Remingtons Ilion NY. USA. Pat May 3d Nov: 16th 1864; April 17th 1868'. Cleaning rod missing.
