Description: Mauser Model 1896 Bolt-action magazine rifle by Ludwig Lowe & Co, Berlin. Round steel barrel, rifled, with a raised blade foresight and calibrated and adjustable rear sight graduated to 2000 metres Retained to the stock by 2 steel barrel bands, the rear band with a side-mounted integral sling swivel, the forward band also forming the nose-cap and also with integral bayonet lug. Cleaning rod missing. Wooden three-quarter stock with separate hand-guard covering the top forward section of the barrel. The underside of the butt with a sling swive. Right side with crudely carved initials A.M.D. and Brijtenbach; the left side with a 'fish' motif. Stamped with serial number A9587. Steel butt plate and loop form trigger guard. Steel receiver with bolt action, the left side stamped Mod Mauser 1896 Ludwig Lowe & Co, Berlin, together with the serial number A9587.
