: British breech-loading military rifle using the Jacob Snider hinged breech system of loading. Round steel rifled barrel with raised blade fore-sight and adjustable & calibrated ramp rear-sight. Stamped with Birmingham proof marks, a Crown & 1B and T. Turner. Hinged breech block incorporating sprung firing pin and ejector. The breech block stamped Sniders Patent (worn), together with BSA Co. Bayonet mounting bar at muzzle. Retained to the stock with 3 iron barrel bands (forward band with sling swivel). Walnut three-quarter stock (recess for oval plaque - missing). Brass furniture comprising; butt plate, trigger guard with a sling swivel (engraved with number 3260), and fore-end cap. Iron ramrod. Flat and plain Enfield type lock, engraved 'Thomas Turner, Fisher Street, Birmingham'. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Bayonet with triangular blade 52.5c cm in length
