Description: Martini Henry single shot breech-loading military rifle. Round steel barrel with octagonal breech, rifled with 4 grooves. Blade foresight and adjustable ramp rear-sight. The breech stamped with various Ordnance markings and proof marks including the serial number 4991 and signed George Gibbs, 39 Corn Street, Bristol. Attached to the stock by 2 steel barrel bands and nose-cap. The forward band with a sling swivel. Square iron receiver (with integral trigger guard) containing hinged breech-block with firing pin, the block lowered for loading by pushing downwards on a long loading lever handle behind the trigger guard. 'Cocked' indicator on right hand side of receiver. Wooden three-quarter length 2-piece walnut stock with steel butt-plate. Steel cleaning rod.
