: Drawing of a painted relief from Xochicalco, Mexico. Watercolour. East side of lower terrace. Drawing in black ink and red watercolour background. It is in two parts. The upper drawing shows a long serpent with the head on the left facing right. The body curves up and down and up again ending in a feathered tail hanging down. Under the first curve is a scroll patterned stand and on the second curve there is seated a cross legged man wearing an elaborate feather headdress. Rosettes decorate the serpent's body. A large tongue which is forked and curled extends from the serpent's mouth. The lower part of the drawing shows the rest of the relief which extends to the right of the above. It was joined by a panel of trelliswork and the rest of the relief is a mirror image of the above pattern, -serpent etc.
