Description: Mauser Model 1898 bolt-action magazine rifle. Stamped with serial number A2725. Steel butt plate and loop form trigger guard. Steel receiver with bolt action, the left side stamped with MOD. Mauser Model 1896 Bolt-action magazine rifle by Ludwig Lowe & Co, Berlin. Round steel barrel, rifled, with a raised blade foresight and calibrated and adjustable rear sight graduated to 2000 metres Retained to the stock by 2 steel barrel bands, the rear band with a side-mounted integral sling swivel, the forward band also forming the nose-cap and also with integral bayonet lug. Cleaning rod missing. Wooden three-quarter stock with separate hand-guard covering the top forward section of the barrel. The underside of the butt with a sling swivel loop. The left side of the stock crudely carved wit the initials AJW. Steel butt plate and loop form trigger guard. Steel receiver with bolt action (bolt removed), the left side stamped Mod Mauser 1896 Ludwig Lowe & Co, Berlin, together with the serial number A3725 'A.J.W.' carved into stock in large flowing letters.
