Object Name: basket

Description: Coiled shallow raphia basket in natural colours with a deeo mauve-red double circle near the rim and and a dark brown double coil near the base. The base has triangles of darker raphia and a pinkish colour. The pink coils are faded on the upper surface. Collected by Rev. Kenred Smith in Northern Democratic Republic of Congo when it was the Congo Free State and later Belgian Congo. He was primarily based at Bopoto (Upoto) Station, a Baptist Missionary Society post on the Upper River from the years 1896 - 1914.
