'Tea Picking in Ceylon'
The artist and lithographer Gerald Spencer Pryse worked for the Underground Electric Railway in London, the Labour Party, and The British Red Cross amongst other clients. He uses bright colours on his poster to make it visually appealing. Pryse used lithography, a type of printing using stone blocks. He used broad blocks of colour with more precise lines to add detail. Combined with the vivid colour palette and bold shading this creates a dynamic and engaging print. The main figure looking out at us, although supposedly working in a field, is posed as a model in a sexualised manner. This is clearly a romanticised view of labour meant to appeal to the public.
