: cartonnage (mummy trappings)

: Cartonnage footpiece. A mummification foot cover made from canvas with a layer of plaster or gesso with painted decoration. The base is flat and has two bound captives in foot shapes, one is pink and the other is orange-brown. The top has two moulded feet with sandal straps, covered in gold leaf. Surrounding the feet is a chequered pattern coloured in black, orange, pink and green. The side of the foot cover has painted flowers in boxes.
