: banknote

: Photostat of a bank note which has been mounted, printed on one side in black ink. Along the left-hand side are the initials of the partners of the bank in rather ornate writing. By the side of this is a design featuring a building which is presumably the building where the bank is housed. On the right-hand side of the note there is the Bristol Coat of Arms enclosed within a circular design. The following is written on the note: No 802 COMMERCIAL BRISTOL Token COMPANY established August 12th, 1811, to facilitate Trade. I Promise to pay the Bearer the Sum of ONE POUND, on demand, at Mefs.rs Will.m Storrs Fry & Sons, Bankers in London. Value received, the [14th] day of [jan.y] 18[12] No [802] For Garratt, Ferrell, Bird, Beck & Grigg. Ent.d. [F.Parker] ONE POUND. [Unreadable signature] Due to the fact it is a photostat it is difficult to tell the condition of the note when the copy was made. There does appear to have been a little creasing of the note and some slight staining.

This object is in store, please contact the Museum to arrange to see the object.
