Plaster on wood shell hood (a), and 2 pieces (b and c) of green painted wood from surround. The latter appear to form a shelf or soffit to the underside of the shell hood. The plaster surface is painted or rendered with a cream / stone coloured coating. The interior concave surface of the hood is decorated with a large scallop shell and foliar S-scrolls and rocaille work, in rococo style. May be from a door hood or an internal buffet niche.
British Archaeology (Q2231)
Wooden panel from door with iron surface lock and iron surface mechanism. Appears to be made as a stand-alone piece which would have bolted onto an existing door. Lock mechanism operates heavy iron bolt which slides vertically (I.e. emerges from one of the narrow edges of the panel, 'due north' of the key hole.) Wooden surround has 7 circular or squarish holes through it, presumably to take bolt fixings, in an irregular pattern. Also one larger hole, roughly keyhole shaped. The panel varies greatly in thickness, having an entirely flat back surface, but a curved and angled front surface, especially thick around the iron faceplate of the keyhole. Appears to be handmade.
