Eastern Art (Or2015.06), Drunk Pot Series No.1 by Wu Hao
'Drunk Pot' is a wine pot made out of granular dark stoneware clay with a tyre-shaped body, an upwards-twisted spout and a tall, thick base. The spout and base are covered in a thick white slip that allows the dark colour of the clay to come through on ridge marks and edges. The circular belly of the teapot is decorated with red and green enamel decoration showing inebriated Chinese scholars on a background of peach blossoms. The foot rim is decorated with swirls painted in red enamels. Irregular impressions in the body of the pot, as well as a curl of clay at the tip of the spout, are covered in gold enamel. Horizontal ridges and hand marks on the clay body, as well as a general sense of asymmetry give the surfaces of the spout and body an organic quality, and convey a sense of playful inebriation. 'Drunk Pot' is an object displayed in the 'Ahead of the Curve : New china from China', an exhibition of contemporary ceramics and glass.

Eastern Art (Or2015.07), Duke Cups by Wu Hao
'Duke Cups' is a work composed of four cups, each made of a stoneware body with a variety of glazes and gilt enamel decoration. Each cup has a broad flattened rim with sharp edges interrupted by a small spout flanked by two prongs. The rims are decorated with a layer of crazed gilt enamel showing a layer of red glaze underneath. Two of the cups have solid green columnar feet covered with a green glaze with a veined appearance, and a tall mid-section with expressive painted designs in red, green and yellow enamels. The other two cups have a more squat body decorated with blue and red enamel floral decoration, resting on three legs covered in gold enamel. One of the latter cups has a small base supporting the legs. 'Duke Cups' is a work previously displayed in the 'Ahead of the Curve : New china from China', an exhibition of contemporary ceramics and glass.
