Bronze silk pelisse robe, with detachable collar. The pelisse robe was a type of day dress in the style of a coat or outer garment known as a pelisse. This one is lined in pale blue silk, and decorated with tiny squares made from fabric covered cardboard. c1825 The sleeves are in the leg of mutton style, with wide sleeve heads created by extra gathers, tapering towards the wrist. The style became extremely popular, with tops swelling to such proportions by the early 1830s that they required their own supports.
