Attendants accompany Jack on his journey, clashing sticks in time to hypnotic music played on drums, melodeons, whistles and fiddles, and often singing. At intervals the procession pauses for a lively dance around Jack before dancing onwards.
Jack's attendants also played music, danced and wore costumes in Bristol 200 years ago, though we do not know what they looked or sounded like.
Jack's attendants perform traditional English music and dances, just as their forebears may well have done. Their wild and vibrant disguises complement Jack, but it is likely that they look rather different from those of earlier times.
