Chris Chalkley (1967 - ) Originator and chair of the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft

Public space is something determined for us by bureaucrats. Chris Chalkley has managed to instigate the transformation of a neglected area of Bristol with no funding in less than seven years by doggedly defying their rules. With community assistance, hard work, creativity and common sense, his crusade to promote liberty, ideas and sustainability over bureaucratic control has come to be admired by many.
